Kyla L. Wright is a first-year Ph.D. candidate at Michigan State University in Information and Media. She is the former Brand
Journalist for the Ilitch Companies, where she covers Ilitch Sports and Entertainment news from the Detroit Tigers and Red Wings, to
Olympia Development and the Fox Theatre, creating written content for Ilitch’s 12 business companies on the external Ilitch
Companies News Hub. She is the former Neighborhoods Reporter at The Detroit Free Press; and a former Communications Manager for the City of Detroit.
As a Detroit Native, Kyla enjoys exploring not only the city, but its inhabitants that make Detroit, Detroit.
She has traveled North America, Europe and Asia through a combination of journalism, ambassadorships and advocacy.
Kyla has been recognized around the country for her journalistic and leadership works, and she has also received numerous local
community service awards.
Kyla is a 2020 graduate of Syracuse University where she received her master’s degree, a 2019 graduate of Hampton University
where she received her bachelor’s degree, both in journalism, respectively.
